FOCUS: Learn (v2n31)
This Week’s Lesson
You need to remain teachable in all situations because you can learn something new.

Richard’s Thoughts…
Two weeks ago I worked with Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on team building. It was a small group, but very energetic – and definitely passionate. It was a week before Thanksgiving so undoubtedly all of our minds were partially out thinking about the upcoming holiday. But regardless, the learning was immense!
Our session was held in a building on campus I had been at nearly two years before when I attended an all-day workshop hosted by one of my mentors. I attended that day to learn more about his methods and techniques so I could grow as a trainer. Little did I know that two years later I would be in that very room leading my own session! From that event two years ago, I learned about my passion. At this event two weeks ago, I learned that despite my best efforts, I need to plan for more time than I expect to need. I learned that one the hard way. But upon returning home, I began to make notes on changes that I need to make so I can be better the next time.
No matter how successful or how big a failure a task or project my have, you have to remain open to the learning experience. Everything in life is a learning experience and as I often say, “It’s the journey, not the destination.” Focus on the journey you’re on and all the learning you’re enjoying. Just imagine if your mind is 100% open to learning this weekend how much you can learn!
