Happy Birthday to Me!
It was last week, not today! But birthdays always get me thinking nostalgically about my life. I thought it might be fun to think back to the day of my 21st birthday.
I turned 21 when I was a junior in college and because my birthday is in January, it was the first week of a new semester. In 2005, it was in the middle of the week and I didn’t want to go out to celebrate. Late in the day, I headed off to our local grocery store and bought a bottle of wine to bring back to the dorm to share with my friends.
I returned and gathered a group of us to celebrate. It was the middle of the week and all we had were plastic Pepper’s Restaurant cups, but we split one bottle of wine about ten ways. Ten guys sharing a drink to celebrate my birthday. It is one memory I will never forget from all my birthdays. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t extravagant. But it was memorable.
Last year, Nathanael sent me a special birthday cake (which I ate mostly by myself!) and that is also one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to see what my 27th will bring.
