February 25, 2009, marks the six-year anniversary of my electoral loss for Mayor of Mason City.

As the time has passed I have begun to cherish certain moments from those four months.

It was refreshing to meet so many wonderful citizens of Mason City who valued what I was saying.

It was enfranchising to hear that what I was saying and what I was standing for was important to so many people.

I have also looked back and realized certain mistakes I made along the way.

Our worlds are different now than they were then. I'm older. Wiser. Better looking. Smarter. Better prepared.

I would like to take this moment to thank the many friends who were with me throughout those crazy four months. You were with me then and I know you're with me now.

There is still a lot of work to do.

We have a world full of hatred and fear.

We have a government that continues to become a bigger and bigger part of our daily lives.

We have children not getting an education and parents not being held accountable.

We alone hold the power in our hands, to reach out to each other, to build the tomorrow we dream - today. And it can happen now.

The Time Is Now.
