What is Real, Human Leadership in Business

I have long believed and advocated that in business, you don’t have to destroy other companies to win. Similarly, you don’t have to tear people down to get the most of out of them.

Kelsie Ferguson wrote on Medium that, “We are so willing to accept surgery for the body when we need it but so hesitate to accept surgery for our mind.” Even in this day-and-age, that remains, sadly true.

But here is the truth, I have gone to therapy. I needed it. That’s okay. And I’m okay saying that.

In life, and in business, EQ (emotional intelligence) is much more important than IQ (brain intelligence). You need to know yourself. And you need to know and understand other people. You have to be able to read people and see when they need a day off,  a break, or a simple walk around the block. That’s EQ. And that’s leadership.

It’s strong to know your strategy and how to work a board room. It’s stronger to know your mind and understand your own thoughts and motivations.

That’s actual leadership.
