Your Eyes Will Play Tricks on You

Over the past week, I’ve done some late-night driving to-and-from Chicago. I was good for the first four hours and the last hour was a struggle. (Don’t worry, I was safe!) But at a few points, my eyes played quick tricks on me: seeing something that wasn’t there!

It reminded me of a long time some college classmates and I took back in 2005 (Cedar Falls to Chattanooga, TN, to watch our UNI Panther football team play for the championship which they sadly lost).

We drove through the night and at one point, I was riding in the passenger seat while my roommate Brian drove. We were alone on this stretch of road and he suddenly changes lanes. I gave it a second and turned and asked, “Why did you change lanes?”

He gave me a surprised look, “There wasn’t a squirrel in the road?”

For the record, there wasn’t. Shortly thereafter, we changed drivers.

Don’t let imaginary obstacles get in your way of your own vision.
